“Capacity Building & Expert Study Tour on the Establishment of Overall Environment Protection Standards”

At National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) Bangkok, Thailand

 

          In response to the request of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Note No. 1603.2/4567 dated 19 August 2016), Siripattana Training Center of National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) accordingly is pleased to propose a training course on “Capacity Building & Expert Study Tour on the Establishment of Overall Environment Protection Standards” for 10 participants from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPR Korea). The course curriculum presented hereunder, is primarily designed to meet the training purpose and the area of technical knowledge required in the concept paper.

         3. Background and Rationale

 

         The purpose of environmental protection/quality standard is to protect quality of life and health by controlling and regulating the quantity and quality of pollutants, emanating mainly from anthropogenic activities, released to the environment. Effective environmental management system is one of the key factors in establishment of successful national environmental protection standards. As the pollutions and environmental issues sometimes require no boundary, up to date knowledge and good practice in environmental management are necessary for involving parties in order to cope with these issues. Understanding the fundamental, principle, procedure and methodology in environmental protection/quality standards are learning steps that play vital role in development and establishment of national environmental protection standards.

 

          This training program aims to provide basic necessary understanding and analytical skills in environmental management in particular the processes of national environmental protection/quality standards development and establishment. The course introduces the principle and procedure for setting environmental protection standards for several major pollution components. It was designed for participants who are working in pollution control and environmental quality fields whether they are operators, scientists, or policy makers as well as relevant officers from different background but show interests in environmental management. Topics of the course are wide-cover and tools for analysis and evaluation are provided for enthusiastic participants. It also aims to encourage participants to apply and extend the principles and topics that they have learned, and use them in the real world situations.

 

          Given the rationale mentioned above, Siripattana Training Center of National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) in collaboration with Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Thailand is pleased to have been assigned as the technical institute for capacity building of Democratic People's Republic of Korea's government officials who will participate in the training course on “Capacity Building & Expert Study Tour on the Establishment of Overall Environment Protection Standards” to be held during 7 - 18 November 2016 at National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Bangkok, Thailand. The participants will be able to gain knowledge and hands on experiences from leading scholars and professionals from renowned institutes and organizations in Thailand.
